Things to Do in Phoenix

Why Do Residents Choose Phoenix?

Parks & Trails

Since Phoenix is located right along the banks of the river, there are endless options for waterfront recreation. Lock Island Park is just across the lock and tucked between the two banks of the river, and offers plenty of green space to explore. Other parks around town include Phoenix Memorial Park and William J. Farley Jr. Community Park. For even more outdoor adventure, head to the other side of the river, and hike, bike, and roam the land of Three Rivers Wildlife Management Area.

Schools

Public Education

Are you moving to Phoenix with a few kids in tow? The Phoenix area is served by the Phoenix School System, which educates just under 2,000 students in the region. The three schools in the district offer a favorably low student-to-teacher ratio, as well as a variety of extracurriculars for students to participate in, from athletics to art programs.

Shopping Bag

Local Amenities

Even though Phoenix is a little smaller in size, the town still offers plenty of options for amenities. For a bite to eat, be sure to try out Bombadils Tavern, the Gingersnap Bakery, and Duskee's Sports Bar & Grill. Need to get some shopping done? Family Dollar and the Medicine Place should cover your basic needs, while larger stores like Walmart, Target, and Wegmans are just ten minutes away in Liverpool—not to mention the Great Northern Mall, as well.

Jobs

Employment

Whether you choose to commute into Syracuse or Oswego for work or find something a little closer, there are plenty of employment options around the Phoenix area. In Onondago County, the largest employers are the Upstate University Health System, Syracuse University, and St. Joseph's Hospital Health Center. In Oswego County, major employers include the city school district, the county government, and the health system. Both major cities offer a wide variety of fields, so there's something for every interest!
